A New Feeling

I had a super weird dream/hallucination last night.

For context, I had taken a nap at 5:00 in the afternoon, woke up at 11:30 am, ate some Buldak, and then fell back asleep at about 1:30 am. This was when the hallucination happened. I started to feel very warm. It felt like my face was stuck in an extremely hot oven. And then, suddenly, this slow electric buzz zapped from the right side of my head to my left ear. It really stung! It happened about 4 more times and this is when I shook my head in real life to try and stop the buzzing and zapping from continuing. It stopped, but only for a couple seconds until it started up again. This time I was aware it was a hallucination so I tried to control it while I was in my dream-state. I started humming different notes and the zap on my head would follow them. It eventually went away, but that night while I was dreaming, I was constantly reminded of it and I was so scared my head would go into this zapping frenzy again.

I looked up my symptoms and the internet said this is called “brain zaps” and it can happen when people have a lot of anxiety or insomnia. This makes sense because the 2 times I’ve had lucid dreams were when I was very sleep deprived.

If anyone has experienced the same thing or something similar, I would love to know!

Very interesting. Sounds like some intense neural discharge of some kind. That sounds particularly intense but I've certainly had milder feelings of stuff going on in my head/brain. Often after coming out of deep dreams. Like a kind of filtering temporary sensation of brain balancing.

I like that you were humming to influence the zaps. When you say they "followed" the humming what do you mean exactly?

Omg! That sounds so crazy! If you’ve went through this phenomenon then I bet there’s a lot more people out there who’ve also experienced it. Brains are really weird.

When I said the zaps followed my humming I meant when I hummed, for example, a low note the zap would sound lower in pitch. And when I hummed a high note the zap would sound squeaky. I don’t think the speed of the zaps changed when I hummed simple notes but they definitely did change in speed and direction when I started to hum a tune/song I made up.

This hallucination was also pretty revolutionary for me because the 2 times I’ve been able to control/manipulate things while lucid dreaming I have done the same thing: yell really loud and repeatedly call out the things I want to happen to a subject in my dream. But in this hallucination I was able to just hum to control something. Pretty cool!
