I was in a barn with a young mare was about to give birth to another foal, ..one of many. When I came closer and extended my arm to comfort her, she quickly pushed the newborn away in a flash of maternal instinct meant to protect her young. I pulled back just as quickly, not wishing to frighten her. What was I thinking? Oh, I wish I hadn't done that. Watching her and seeing the newborn was very special to me.

Much of what we've been taught about how to approach life is intrusive and even destructive, and those of good conscious often regret what they have unintentionally done once they see the negative consequences of those blunders. We blunder so much in our lives partly because we aren't taught to be considerate-learning to everything around us while making our way through our lives (like the difference between an explorer and a conqueror). To me, this is what your dream speaks of. I find it also significant that you not only regret in your dream but try to fix/make amends and go back to the enjoying the special moment from a safe-to-the-mother distance (as you were made aware of *after* you had gotten too close, thinking initially of your perspective and not hers). If we changed our default in our culture and our children, they would perhaps not need dreams like this, because they would think before they reached out/intruded. :)
