I was just wondering if anyone could perhaps advise me on a recurring dream I’ve had for as long as I can remember (bearing in mind that I’m 63 years old…a long time!)
I’m walking down a late 1950’s/early 1960’s Street judging by style of the few cars.
It’s in Manchester (I’m from Stockport and was born in 1961)
I’m a young adult in the dream.
The street is cobbled and it seems very working class.
There is a road across the street in the same direction I’m heading and the weird thing is a small, shunter type steam engine travels along it.
I feel calm enough then as I walk past a pub the up to a two up, two down house on my left the door flies open and a woman is screaming for help!
I somewhat reluctantly get dragged by her into the front room which is basic but clean and functional (there’s a tea pot & cups on a small table next to what looks like a radiogram with some 78rpm records stacked neatly on the floor.
She calms down slightly and tells me that the police have ignored her and ‘they’ will kill another child tonight!
I ask what I should do and she gives me an address in Gorton.
I catch a bus to Gorton after frantically asking local folk how to get there.
My dream then fast forwards to me desperately attempting to find the address before actually finding it but as I walk up to the door (it’s another two up, two down style of house) I gear muffled screaming from the front room, what’s horrifying is it’s the scream of a child.
And EVERY time I awake at the same time…until recently after a mini Stroke, it now ends with a little girl whose tied up and crying whilst a young couple beat her, the male has what looks like a lump hammer and the female has a poker!
This dream originated in my small childhood and I didn’t understand it properly but over the many years it’s become focused and clear...with the recent and even more horrific ending I now can only sleep a maximum of 4 hours before I awake sweating with my blood pressure and heartbeat through the roof!
Yes…I’m aware it’s only a dream, albeit a dreadful one. But now more than ever I’m finding it deeply disturbing.
Has anybody else had this style of dream?
