Any dreams that play-out like movie plots?

I periodically experience sleep-dreams that had the continuities, and styles of movie plots. Many of these dreams actually contained very little in the way of "dream-like" content.

So...which came first, the dream or the movie? (An easier question to answer/perspective to correct than the chicken/egg version. :) )

ETA: I was in a hurry the other day and only added cheekiness to the point rather than also the encouragement of the larger subject. As I did in my book with the student group I cover, I think it's more fascinating to imagine what all things, from art (novels/movies/music/visuals) to inventions to belief systems, could have been originally inspired by dreams. Just how many kinds of ideas might have been prompted in the dream realm rather than being observed or created entirely while awake?

The consensus of dream experts describe dreams as very much like movie showings. Hence, dreams that are similar to movie structures, styles etc. are not surprising at all.

Ah, but my point is that dreams have been around many thousands of years before movies, so it's actually far more accurate to think of movie structures as being inspired by and copying some dream formats. :) Let's just ensure we have an accurate perspective, since dreams are ruined/limited by narrow perspectives ("small minds") and absolutely *thrive* with broad perspectives (properly engaged minds); it's understandable for students of dreaming to even propose that one of the benefits of dreaming--one of its purposes--is to expand and open minds. It'd be a real shame not to take that lesson to heart.

Happy dreaming.

Just experienced one of those rarely experienced movie-plot dreams - Where it's asked, "when will TECH develop to enable audio/visual recordings, and replays of sleep dreams?" Such TECH. has been discussed here in 'DreamForum.'

The movie started-out as a light drama, and gradually transitioned into a musical format movie, with a few bits of comedic moments througout the movie.

The movie included about nine charaters total with differing (yet no too differing) personalities -all orientated around navigating through what appeared as a messy boarding house - that is messy by the numerous household items scattered-around the place. A couple of voices of unseen women were yelling at us to clean-up the place!

As the movie transitioned into a musical, we cleaned-up, and organized the place. Gone were the mess of numerous household items, and the presence of newly set-up stage-props mostly resembling three-foot high fences. The place no longer felt like a boarding house, but felt like a square in the center of a small indoor shopping mall, minus the shoppers - only a theatrical troupe (of maybe nine people) ready to perform a dance routine.

I had a tiny part in the dance troupe - that is 'tiny' as I am not trained in the performing arts: I was only required to walk quickly toward a gate, and open the gate (via lifting the gate-latch on the outside of the gate) on the stage-prop fence and walk-through. I was tempteted to (but did-not) jump-over the fence like my other fellow eight physically-fit dance performers. (I sensed a slight comedic moment here). I also remembered the announcer at the event introduced the dance school performance - all while playing the theme to the 1980 film 'Fame.'

The main music playing in the movie sounded quite similar to the lively 1979 song, 'The Main Event' - that was playing during the last part of the dance routine, through the end-credits to the movie, and even playing as we walked outside of the movie theater through the parking lot.

I was amazed that this movie was just over three-hours in length. A movie that started in the early afternoon, and had concluded in the mid to late afternoon - based on the sun angle outside of the movie theather - at which time, I felt I had gone from one of the characters in the movie, to an audience member walking-out of the theater with everybody else. (No, nobody asked me if I was in that movie we just saw.)

I've had a few movie-plot dreams where I was an audience member who played those tiny (cameo) parts in movies. This is like a reverse of the "breaking of the fourth wall" in performing arts - that is "breaking the fourth wall" is where characters in a production interact with the audience.

For such a basic movie plot involving housekeeping, dance routines, and misc. bits of related movie content too numerous to put to words, I sensed that the movie plot had the depth of story-lines more complex than housekeeping, and dance performances - a movie that went beyond the usual two to two-and a half hours in length.

* After I had awoken from this dream at 4:30AM, I felt what came be described as a refreshing "WHOA feeling" - I felt I had to applaude in bed, and even to stand-up and applaude - and proceeding to get a drink of water. And again, asking, "when will TECH. be available to allow us to record our sleep-dreams?" as I went back to sleep.

well, dream insights, you can check out some of my dreams and judge for yourself which ones seem to you like movie plots. i have been told by some fellow dreamers that some of them are very much like movie plots. while there is no doubt as to which came first, some of them are epic dreams , which i have been told resemble movie plots very much although i did not think think of them that way at first. i would especially recommend A DANGEROUS MISSION ENDS ON AN UNUSUAL NOTE on page 36 AN UNCERTAIN QUEST ENDS ON AN ENLIGHTENING NOTE on page 34 and A SECRET MISSION AND A DANGEROUS SITUATION on pages 30-31. all these dreams were so vivid and prolonged that i had to post them in more than one part for brevity . if you do check them by all means let me know what you think. i selected these because they were the ones that struck me as the closest in form to movie plots. it will be interesting to read your opinion

Is there a summary to 'An Uncertain Quest Ends On An Enlightening Note?'

Is there a summary to 'An Uncertain Quest Ends On An Enlightening Note?'

a summary? it is quite a multi-faceted dream and rather complex, i myself do not fully understand it,but insofar as a Dream can have a summary possibly it is this: a quest and an admonition and a warning for humanity not to continue on the course it has been going on and live in greater balance with the world. that is not all there is to it,but this would be a rough overview of it.you can go ahead and examine it and i will certainly be interested in what you think, see if you do not agree that these dreams are rather like plots of movies. looking forward to it

The summary being "lessons for humanity" has been written about, and put into audio/visual media many times.

Can parallels be drawn between specific stories, movies, etc. to "An Uncertain Quest Ends On An Enlightening Note?"

Many dream (from my own personal expriences) often draw parallels to specific stories, movies, etc.

maybe in a general sense.i know of Sci-Fi and adventure stories that contain quests. stories that contain quests. this involved several features ,such as seeing the earth erupt and several totally unexpected things happening. such as the wise master passing on information and the transmutation of the people in the car. it does vaguely resemble some Dr Who episodes and science fiction movies . unusual features such as what happened to the driver could conceivably have a story built around them. this is possibly even more true of A DANGEROUS MISSION ENDS ON AN UNUSUAL NOTE. at least the structure would be something the average Sci-Fi /fantasy fan could readily relate to. i know that some dreams have their parallels in certain stories. who knows, maybe some dreams are the inspiration behind some stories. i do not know of any story specifically like that, but there may be some do you know of any? i am looking forward to exchanging views on this

The examples are informative.

I had a chance to look at published works online whose writers favored story ideas stemming from dreams. Didn't find any examples which may draw parallels to "An Uncertain Quest Ends On An Enlightening Note"

Any real-life exmples which might relate to the dream yielding "An Uncertain Quest Ends On An Enlightening Note?"

Any consideration for publishing stories stemming from dreams? There is likely a growing reader interest for dream-inspired stories.

you are not likely to find any examples of parallels to that dream, as it was a dream with a message pertaining to human relations to technology and the life pattern of human existence and the tendency of humans to become unduly dependent on technology and with unhealthy aspects of technology overlooked. and also the tendency of human beings to become complacent ,to believe what the experts say, instead of forming independent judgments . it was a very unusual dream,i admit. the quest for knowledge, the sense that certain forces are opposed to people acquiring that knowledge, and the people in the car being reduced to shadows-all these are big thoughts with my own psyche and come to the forefront in dream state. now the driver being drained of his mental faculties-now there is something which might have a parallel in stories. i seem to remember once having watched a science fiction movie which featured the villain being able to absorb mental faculties of people by touching them. it has certain parallels in science fiction, largely because technology plays such a big role in modern society . so although much of this dream pertains to technology it really is a spiritual and metaphysical dream with solutions being offered by the magenta robed master . it is part warning, part allegorical parable on contemporary society.if you want a parallel for science fiction you would probably have better luck with the other 2 dreams A DANGEROUS MISSION ENDS ON AN UNUSUAL NOTE and A SECRET MISSION AND A DANGEROUS SITUATION ,with their theme of high tech combat and secret weapons . if you are looking for an inspiration for a story i might suggest A VISION INTO THE DEPTHS OF THE SUBCONSCIOUS? OR PERHAPS THE FUTURE? in the DREAM EXPERIENCES AND DISCUSSION section . it is technology themed and maybe you could get some ideas from it. or EXPANDING CONSCIOUSNESS AND ACQUIRING POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS ABILITIES IN THE PROCESS on pages 13-11 in SHARE YOUR DREAMS section those dreams are technology themed and you may very well find what you are looking for there. i am looking forward to reading what you think and any stories you might write as a result.

Any consideration for developing these stories for publication?

Do you feel there might be that growing reader interest for dream-inspired stories - esp. with AI-TECH playing ever more roles in content production?

consideration? i am afraid i do not quite understand. please explain. i think it is very likely there is growing reader for dream-inspired stories but what are you asking?

well, although i never thought along such lines before, i am very pleased with the compliment. some of my fellow dreamers do think some of my dreams resemble science fiction, but to put in book form? at least one urged me to do that. of course the fact that you read on this forum is proof enough that i have published it,in a sense. but i can see how a story line might be built around them. exactly what did you have in mind?

I have no new feedback at this time.

Any feedback on my dream (post #5)? This dream stood-out compared to my other movie-plot like dreams.
