Music in dreams relating to dream experiences?

I had experienced a dream - of two songs (listed below) combined into a rather unique, yet seemingly familiar blend of audio:

* The 1966 'Walker Brothers' song, 'The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore.'

* The 1978 'Electric Light Orchestra' (ELO) song, 'Sweet Talkin' Woman.'

In the dream, was a singer (who looked familiar to me personally) who was singing on a stage these two songs blended together - with what might have been two differnt bands performing in the background. These two songs are stilll periodically played on radio-stations to this day.

ADDENDUM: This singer's performance was very similar to karaoke.......minus the teleprompter!

A long time, ago, I had quite the dream where I was roller-skating to Elton John's 1983 song, 'I'm Still Standing.'

I'm skating up and down the walkways (during light foot traffic) of an indoor shopping mall in suburban Los Angeles. This Elton John song came-out when I lived near this mall (and no, I've never done, or ever thought of attempting such hijinks).

An elderly mall security guard gave me that irritated look, and I sheepishly (acknowledged that "YES SIR, OKAY SIR" reaction) , and slowly toned-down my skating. I was suddenly thrust into an actual roller-skating rink - where I proceeded to skate-away...... all while singing-along at the "top of my lungs" to John's, 'I'm Still Standing.'

I woke-up, tossing in my bed, and seriously wondering If I was singing, 'I'm Still Standing' in my sleep. I immediately felt that I doubted I was singing in my sleep.

P.S. Yes, I've skated at skating-rinks....... to music less dynamic than John's, 'I'm Still Standing.'

Awhile back, I had a dream that took-place in a living-room with a small gathering of people. In the living-room, there was a rather unusual looking old-school film projector - unusual as an old-school tape recorder had a cable that was connected to the projector (no such actual product existed) Personally, I remember timing an audio recording with a film projector's play.

The lights in the living-room dimmed, and the projector automatically switched on. For some reason, I had pressed the 'PLAY' switch on the tape-recorder. The audio/visual looked very-much like the early music video to the 1960s song, 'White Rabbit.'

Myself, and the other people in the living-room paused, gathered to watch the audio/visual film, and collectively felt that WHOA feeling - like rediscovering that decades-old masterpiece (again for the first time) that sentiment of "a revealation of sorts!"
ADDENDUM: The song playing was 'White Rabbit.'

I went to sleep last night dwelling on Hillel (the Elder) and his potent influence -- the *benevolent* kind of influence, of confident wisdom, placed in the right amounts at the right times to turn people's minds to goodness, our potential. I had some "meeting"-type dreams with those I cannot recall, and woke up with with Supertramp's "Give A Little Bit" playing meaningfully in my mind. Sometimes, I swear even if the music isn't in the dream itself, a good part of our mind connects/reconnects to important music that matches the feelings we are returning from the dream realm with. As if confirming in a good way: "others have also had these experiences."

I'll give a little bit
of my life for you,
So give a little bit
of your time to me.

A few 'Supertramp' songs have shown-up in my dreams - most notably, 'Take the Long Way Home' and 'The Logical' song.

Supertramp songs often appear as recommendations on online music site- recommendations are based-on user preferences.

I have a lot of music in my dreams. I'd make a distinction between songs like the one above which are well known to many in waking world via records and so on, and ones that come spontaneously to me in the dream state. Ones I effortlessly composed so to speak, sometimes either playing on dream radios or stereo systems or simply heard. Some of these I've managed to salvage parts of and turned into actual waking world songs and recordings. I even have one of these online - give me the word and I can link to it - it's on SoundCloud.

Yeah interconnectedness through music.

Agreed. To me (though I also have extensive musical exposure) it seems obvious there are multiple "types" involving music dreams -- or perhaps to view it more organically, music in dreams is so flexible that it's only limited by our own (current and hopefully expanding) abilities. Therefore it should come as no surprise that those charged with creation will sometimes have music and that act of creation "spoken" to them inside the dream realm (heh, I had a memorable dream where I was teaching a facet of music to an unknown "class", sharing that knowledge-feeling-purpose of chord progressions). Music is, after all, a form of language/communication, and the dream realm loves using all types of this to stimulate us. Kudos to you, Will, for following that through in the waking world; feel free to share that particular SoundCloud link so we can have more context (and please provide more details on that specific dream-motivation).

Last night, I had a dream of Sinatra's, 'New York.' This stemmed from TV viewing of the new year's festivities in New York.

This song started in early hypnagogic beginning sleep. IE I got the first line - melody, lyrics, chords - and then wokeup and wrote the rest. Its called Mind Open Eyes Closed.

"And as he lay there drifting, mind open eyes closed, sleeping."

Here's my recording of it:

It doesn't seem to be clickable you gotta paste it into your browser.

Personally, dream experiences during sleep, and toward awakening are generally the rule. Dream experiences in early sleep are extremly rare.

Super cool! White rabbit is a neat song. I've performed in various situations, both solo and with a girlfriend of mine, bon numerous occasions.

Really? That's interesting. Try paying attention to the images as you drift off - I'm sure you must get hypnagogic imagery as you fall into sleep, like most people, no?

Interesting to hear the dream-fed structure take form; thanks for sharing. And try to keep in mind that since you can lucid dream, you have different tools/practices than those whose minds are more tightly bound to their consciousness. And I consider "trancing" to be among those tools not everyone shares -- that's not a good or bad thing; it just is and should be accounted for when sharing. It isn't as simple/straight-forward as "paying attention...as you drift off", even if it seems that simple to you (consider things you might have learned long ago that you now take for granted/do by reflex). None of these experiences we share are guaranteed experiences. Cheers.

Which dream fed structure? Are you talking about my tune or something in the response or something else?

Yes, the "melody, lyrics, chords" -- the structure -- and then you did the work in the waking world to complete it. I find that to be very cool, like a musical hand-off between the subconscious and conscious realms. :)
