Today made me sad

It was a lovely day but a conversation I had picking up my God son from school was both sweet and heartbreaking.

*walking home in the snow he's quieter then normal*
"Lex?"
Me "Yes baby?"
"I don't want you to get old." His reply is softer then his normal voice and I smile wondering what brought this on.
Me "oh why's that?"
"When you get old you die, and I don't want you to die."
Me "What on earth brought that on?"
"I don't know, I just like you is all."
(He's six)
Me "I'll to my best to out live you kid"
"Ok" then he runs and face plants himself in a snow pile. ❄️
Seriously he's such a unique kid some times.
But he broke my heart saying that, and I'm not sure why.

I suspect lots of little/unique examples like this are made to test your understanding/acceptance level. You were having one of your many and perhaps your godson was having his first of many :) (and you were the subject of his focus). The complex reality of death can challenge any human (and not always in a positive way): that while death can be horrific, it is also the very mechanism that gives life its urgency and vibrancy. These are massive concepts for a 6-year-old, so I'm happy your playful attitude and that pile of snow were there to help him.
